WILLIAM MARCET. Autograph Letter signed: "W. Marcet", 2 p,
folded to 4½x7. No place, 1857 August 25. To "My Dear Dr.
Reynolt". Signed on page 2. In full: "I take leave later this
week, and trust you will kindly undertake my work at the Westminster Hospital
during the month of September. I would feel very much obliged to you if you
could be in on Monday next, but should this put you to the slightest
inconvenience, Wednesday the 2nd of September will be soon enough. If you are in
town please to send me a line as soon as you can. Yours very truly." Slight
ink smudges (not at signature). Vertical fold touches "M" of signature. Ink note
on 2nd page verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition. Accompanied
by envelope addressed to Reynold in Marcet's hand, postmarked August 25,
1857. Lightly soiled. Envelope flap is torn where opened. British doctor
Marcet published the first important study of coprosterol as a product of
excretion and wrote a standard text on human respiration. Two
items.
