In full: "Dear Mr. Pruett:/In accordance with your recent request, I am pleased to return to you herewith the autographed inaugural invitation [item not included]. Best wishes to you and your students. Sincerely." William Pettus "Bill" Hobby, Jr. (b.1932) is an American politician who served as Texas's Lieutenant Governor from 1973 to 1991, an 18 year record. A Democrat, he is the son of William P. Hobby Sr. who also served as Lieutenant Governor of Texas (1917-1921). His mother, Oveta Culp Hobby was the first person to ever be appointed the United States Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare by President Eisenhower. Both of his grandfathers also served in the Texas legislature. Before entering politics, Hobby worked at the family newspaper (now-defunct) Houston Post as an editor and later president, a position he held for 20 years. Hobby has also served as Chancellor of the University of Houston System (1995-1997). Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
