WILLIAM P. ROGERS
As Secretary of State, he thanks musician Barnee Breeskin for frequent notes.
Typed Letter signed: "William P. Rogers" as Secretary of State, 1 page, 7x9. Washington, D.C., 1971 March 10. On official letterhead to Barnee Breeskin, Washington, D.C. In full: "I do appreciate your notes from time to time even though I don't answer each of them. Your words of encouragement and support mean a great deal. With best personal regards, Sincerely". WILLIAM P. ROGERS (1913-2001), a New York lawyer who had served on Governor Thomas E. Dewey's anti-crime task force, was President Dwight Eisenhower's Attorney General (1958-1961) and later President Richard Nixon's Secretary of State (1969-1973). Though a respected figure, Rogers was generally overshadowed in foreign policy by the man who eventually replaced him as Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. As a member of the task force investigating the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, Rogers was the first to criticize NASA management for endangering astronaut safety. Barnee Breeskin (d. 1989) was a Washington-area band leader turned public relations specialist. He composed the music to the fight song, "Hail to the Redskins." Lightly creased. Mailing fold through center. Otherwise, fine condition.
