leaves...The dig was over. What was beginning? He dusted the thought like a
clay-fresh find but he could not tag it...." The Exorcist, based
on stories in "The Washington Post" about an exorcism in nearby Mount Rainier,
Maryland, was published in 1971. The book, which sold nearly 13 million
copies in the U.S., was made into a motion picture that opened in December 1973.
Blatty, who served as the film's producer, won an Academy Award for his
screenplay. The Exorcist broke box office records, bringing in
$165 million, and was re-released in 2000. The new version included eleven
minutes of footage cut from the original. Fine condition.
