WILLIAM R. COYLE
Congressman Coyle writes to a supporter and professor at Lafayette College in 1929
Typed Letter signed: "W. R. Coyle". 1p. 8x10½, Washington D. C. 1929 June 13, on Congressional Letterhead. To: Professor Leon Z. Lerando, Easton Pennsylvania. In full: "My dear Professor: Accept my cordial thanks for your very kind letter of the 9th. I am more than pleased to learn that you have regained you health, and take this oppor-tunity to express the hope that you will continue to enjoy excellent health for many, many years. Un-til a few weeks ago, I was troubled myself with an attack of neuritis, which caused me a good deal of discomfort, but I am thankful to say I am now back to par. I was very much interested to receive the program of the Steuben Evening at the College. With my very best regards, and hoping you may find the time to write me occasionally, I am, Sincerely yours,". Leon Z. Lerando was a Professor of Slavonic Studies at Lafayette College. William R. Coyle (1878-1962) was born, raised and educated in Washington, D.C. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps (1900-1906) moved to Pennsylvania, eventually settling in Bethlehem. He served in the National Guard and during WWI was a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was elected as a Republican to the U.S. House of Representatives and served from 1925-1927 and again from 1929-1933. Coyle also served as chairman of Bethlehem Redevelopment Authority (1953-1959). Normal mailing folds creases. Lightly toned and soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
