WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO + JULIET MOVIE CAST: LEONARDO DICAPRIO and CLAIRE DANES Signed color photograph from the 1996 film adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic Photograph signed: "Leonardo/DiCaprio" and "[heart]Claire/Danes." Color, 10x8. They are pictured in a scene from the movie. The classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy is updated by director Baz Luhrmann to a post-modern Verona Beach where swords are merely a brand of gun and bored youths are easily spurred toward violence. Longtime rivals in religion and business, the Montagues and the Capulets share a page from the Jets and Sharks of West Side Story when they form rival gangs. Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) is aloof toward the goings-on of his Montague cousins, but after he realizes that Juliet (Claire Danes) is a Capulet at the end of one very wild party, the enmity between the two clans becomes the root of his angst. Leonardo DiCaprio (b. 1974) earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal as a mentally handicapped youth in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993). He became a big name star soon thereafter in films like William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (1996), but especially Titanic (1997), one of the largest grossing movies of all time. DiCaprio has become a lead actor who production companies know they can depend on for a huge profit; he often works with director Martin Scorsese (Gangs of New York, 2002; Shutter Island, 2010; Wolf of Wall Street, 2013). Over the course of his career, he's been nominated for many Academy Awards and Golden Globes, including multiple nominations for the Best Actor Oscar. Claire Danes (b. 1979) appeared in a number of small parts before her breakthrough role in 1994 as Angela Chase in the television series My So-Called Life, which helped her land the role as Juliet in this 1996 film. She was the female lead in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) and the television movie Temple Grandin (2010). More recently, she earned the lead role in the Showtime television series Homeland (2011), which follows her character, a United States counter-terrorism agent, and her chase to uncover a suspected traitor. She has won multiple Golden Globe and Emmy awards for her performances on television. Fine condition.
