Excerpt of The Great White Queen: A Tale of Treasure and Treason transcribed and signed by the author himself
Autograph Quotation Signed: "William Le Queux" 6¼x8 sheet with an excerpt from Le Queux's novel The Great White Queen: A Tale of Treasure and Treason to: "W.J.L." Excerpt In Part: "Its enormous wings, each full five hundred feet from body to tip were [illegible] on either side + supported by gigantic pillars of rock carved to represent warriors' grotesque + hideous figures of men and animals. They formed great temples on either side of the body. The latter, however, attracted our attention more than [illegible] the wonderful wings for as we stood aghast + amazed we [illegible] that the vast body of the colossus did not represent that [illegible] but the gigantic jaws were [illegible] of a crocodile." William Le Queux (1864-1927) was a journalist, writer, and diplomat who published fiction and nonfiction works in prolific fashion. His novels include The Great War in England in 1897 (1894)and The Invasion of 1910 (1906), both fictional books that are part of a genre called invasion literature.
