Autograph Letter signed: "W W Clapp",1 page, 5½x7½. Boston, 1886
April 29. On letterhead of the Boston Journal to "Dear Sir". In
full: "I have given the article into the hands of the compositor, and
will publish as soon as I find room. Yours truly". William Warland Clapp
(1826-1891), who always went by his initials W. W., was a Boston author, and
editor of the Boston Gazette and the Boston Journal. His papers, in the
collection of Harvard's Houghton Library, include many letters from New England
luminaries like Louisa May Alcott, William Lloyd Garrison and Oliver Wendell
Holmes. He was a Boston Alderman and - during the Civil War - a member of the
Sanitary Commission, and is portrayed in the latter role on the Soldiers' and
Sailors' Monument in Boston Common. His books include A Record of the Boston
Stage. Normal mailing creases. Lightly soiled. Two ¼" notches at center of
top edge. Paper and adhesive residue (previous mounting) on verso. Otherwise,
fine condition.
