WILLIE "CURLEY" WILLIAMS
The legendary Negro League power-hitter signs his name in blue
ink
Autograph note signed: "Congratulations Frank!!/Willie "Curley"
Williams", in blue ink, 5x3. Willie "Curley" Williams (1925-2011)
was a power-hitting shortstop and third baseman who began his career in the
Negro Leagues, most memorably for the Newark Eagles (1945-1948), but
also around the country for over ten years. He made it to the Major Leagues
in 1950 with the Chicago White Sox, but never played past the AAA team due
to lingering prejudice and attitudes towards black baseball players. Williams
was best known for his big batting numbers, posting .391 in his final season in
the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League. Fine condition.
