In full: "Thank you for your recent card containing the kind comments. Your expression of support is deeply appreciated. I am enclosing the photo as you requested. [Item not included.] Sincerely". Willie L. Brown, Jr. (b. 1934) served in the California Assembly for 30 years (1965-1995), and was Speaker from 1980. He was Mayor of San Francisco for two terms (1996-2004). A Democrat, Brown was known for his flamboyant style and his adroit legislative skills. Since leaving office, Brown has been a talk show host and newspaper columnist, abstaining from political endorsements. He has written a memoir, and appeared in the film Godfather Part III.
