Signed envelope commemorating Game Four of the 1985 World Series
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Willie McGee", 6½x3½. Color cachet shows Cardinal pitcher John Tudor making a delivery in Game 4 of the 1985 World Series. Postmarked World Series Station, St Louis, Missouri, October 23, 1985 (the city and date of the game), 22-cent US flag stamp affixed. (St Louis won the game, but the Kansas City Royals came back to win the all-Missouri "Show-Me" Series in 7 games.) Outfielder Willie McGee played 18 Major League seasons (1982-1999), the first 8½ and final 4 with the Cardinals. In between he played four years for San Francisco, his home town, with short stints in Oakland and Boston. McGee, a 4-time All-Star and 3-time Gold Glove, had a sensational 1985: winning the batting title and the MVP award while leading the league in hits and triples and stealing 56 bases. He played in three World Series for the Cardinals and another for Oakland. Traded to the A's late in the 1990 season, he became the only player to win the batting title in one league while finishing the Series in the other. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
