WILLIE WOOD
Shown in uniform, running with the ball
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Jim/Best Wishes/Willie Wood". B/w, 8x10. Willie Wood
(1936-2020) played college ball at USC and was a safety for the Green Bay Packers for a
dozen seasons (1960-1971). An 8-time Pro Bowl selection and a member of the NFL's
All-Decade team of the 1960s, Wood was part of the Packers' NFL championship teams of
1961-1962 and 1965, and made a key interception en route to victory in Super Bowl I. The
first African-American head coach in modern pro football, Wood led the Philadelphia Bell
of the World Football League and the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. A member of the Pro
Football Hall of Fame since 1969, Wood receives a paltry $1,100 per month in NFL
pension, not enough to cover treatment costs for his many football-related injuries. Signature
beaded but legible. Surface creases seen head on. Ink stamps on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
