WORLD WAR II: GERMAN ACES. Commemorative Envelope signed:
"Wilhelm Herget", "Wolfgang Falck", "Dieter Schmidt" and "Reinhard
Kollak", 6½x4½. Two British stamps affixed, pictorially postmarked
British Forces Postal Service, July 13, 1971, 30th Anniversary of
Introducing of Mosquito into RAF service. Note that this envelope was flown to
Berlin. Each German war ace has added an annotation (in German) beneath his
signature. On verso, stamped accomplishments of each of the four aces who signed
this envelope. Slightly creased at blank corners. Minor stain at lower right
margin from removal of address label. Fine condition. With seven unsigned
photographs, b/w, varying sizes, of the four Germans and others and two
photocopies of Luftwaffe documents. There is one "studio" portrait of Falck; the
other photos are candid shots. Minor surface creases, identifying stamps on
verso. Fine condition. WOLFGANG FALCK, who was known as "the Father of
the Luftwaffe Nightfighters", was promoted to the post of Oberst on
July 1, 1943. He had seven victories (all daylight) in 90 missions. WILHELM
HERGET had 72 victories (57 at night, one jet victory); DIETER
SCHMIDT had 39 night victories; and, REINHARD KOLLAK had 49 night
victories. Ten items.
