WOLLMAR BOSTROM
The private secretary to King Gustav V of Sweden signs this
handwritten letter thanking the recipient for his inquiry but declining to
participate in the publication of a book
Autograph letter signed: "W Bostrom" as "Private
Secretary to H.M. The King", in black ink. 5½x6. November 29, 1908.
Written on stationary of the secretariat du Roi. In full: "Sir, I have
been commanded by H.M. The King of Sweden to convey to you His Majesty's thanks
for your letter of 21st last and the enclosed lists, and to inform you that His
Majesty is not disposed to [illegible] one/of your annual international
nobility book. I am, Sir, your obedient servant". Wollmar Filip Boström
(1878-1956) was a diplomat and tennis player from Sweden. He won a bronze
medal at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London in the men's indoor doubles
category, alongside Gunnar Setterwall. His first major assignment was as attaché
in Paris in 1905. The following year he was appointed second secretary at the
Foreign Ministry, and then made first secretary in 1908. From 1910-1913 he
was the King Gustaf V's private secretary. From 1925 till 1945 he was the
Swedish minister in Washington. Bostrom was son to a Governor and nephew to
a Prime Minister. Toned. Left edge removed from a book. Adhesive residue on
verso. Newspaper clippings included. Otherwise, fine condition.
