WOMAN THEY ALMOST LYNCHED CAST: AUDREY TOTTER and JOAN LESLIE In this 6x4 photo both actresses are shown packing pistols, highly unusual for a Western of the early 1950s Photograph signed: "Audrey/Totter", in black felt tip and "Joan/Leslie", in blue felt tip, b/w, 6x4. Photographic still from Woman They Almost Lynched (1953). A groundbreaking movie in the early 1950s, it featured the women brawling and gun-fighting instead of waiting for rescue. Joan Leslie played Kate Quantrill, and Totter, the new woman in town, soon takes up arms as well. AUDREY TOTTER (1918-2013) starred on the radio series Meet Millie in the 1940s. She had leading roles in numerous films of the 1940s and early 1950s, including The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), FBI Girl (1951) and The Vanishing American (1955). In these early films, she often portrayed a tough-talking "dame," but she softened her image for television. She starred on the TV series Cimarron City (1958-1959) and Medical Center (1969-1976). Born Joan Agnes Theresa Sadie Brodel, JOAN LESLIE (1925-2015) was on the vaudeville stage at age 3, an ad model at 11, and in films by 12. Some of her best movie roles came in Sergeant York (1936), High Sierra (1941), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), Hollywood Canteen (1944), and Rhapsody in Blue (1945). Her appearances became infrequent after 1960 as she pursued a second career as a dress designer. Fine condition.
