Y. FRANK FREEMAN
Handwritten and signed expense report on Paramount Pictures Inc. letterhead
for the week ending April 30, 1949
Autograph letter signed "Y F Freeman" in blue ink. 1 page, 8¼x10¾, on
Paramount Pictures, Inc. letterhead. Addressed to "Morris". This letter details
purchases that Freeman made with an $823.90 cash advance. He spent $176.05 of
this money during the week ending April 30, 1949, including $144.65 for meals
and $31.40 for theatre tickets to two unidentified shows, leaving a balance of
$647.85. Freeman (1890-1969, born Young Frank Freeman) was an executive
for Paramount Pictures who headed the studio in the late 1950s. He helped
push a transformation in the studio system, which moved away from salaried and
strictly controlled producers to the use of outside production units. These
production companies were staffed by actors, directors and producers whom the
studios enticed with promises of independence and profit sharing. Freeman was
also the first winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts' Jean Hersholt
Humanitarian Award in 1956. Lightly toned and creased. Random ink stains.
Light dent in top edge. Staple holes and two binder holes near top edge. Folded
twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
