Y. FRANK FREEMAN
Freeman signed this typewritten letter in 1955 from Beverly Hills Hotels and Bungalows in order to set the start date of a lease on a single-family home
Typed letter signed by "Y F Freeman" in blue ink as Vice-President of Paramount Pictures Corporation and the President of Beverly Hills Hotel Corporation in brown ink. With red pencil notations in unknown hand. 2 pages, 7x10¼, on Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows letterhead. Aug. 16, 1955. Letter from Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows to Freeman, Vice-President, Paramount Picture Corporation, Hollywood, California. Beverly Hills Hotels and Bungalows sent this letter to acknowledge receipt of a letter from Freeman on July 20, 1955. Paramount Pictures had an undated lease with Beverly Hills Hotels and Bungalows on a single family residence or condo on North Crescent Drive in Beverly Hills; this letter was to confirm that this lease would begin on Aug. 1, 1955. Freeman (1890-1969, born Young Frank Freeman) was an executive for Paramount Pictures who headed the studio in the late 1950s. He helped push a transformation in the studio system, which moved away from salaried and strictly controlled producers to the use of outside production units. These production companies were staffed by actors, directors and producers whom the studios enticed with promises of independence and profit sharing. Freeman was also the first winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts' Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1956. Lightly toned, soiled, stained and creased. Random ink stains. Staple holes and paper clip impression in upper left corner. Folded thrice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
