YOGI BERRA Baseball signed by the Hall of Famer who led the New York Mets to the National League pennant in1973, with "1973 Mets N.L Champs" and their motto from that season: "You Gotta Believe" Baseball signed: "Y.Berra/ 1973 Mets N.LChamps/ You Gotta Believe", in black ink, 2½-inch diameter. Rawlings Official National League ball with William D. White facsimile signature. Yogi Berra (1925-2015) played on the Mets during his last season of major league play in 1965 and later coached them from 1972 to 1975. His accolades during that period include leading the Mets to a pennant in the National League in 1973. "You Gotta Believe" was the team motto in 1973. A fine defensive catcher and handler of pitchers Berra, born Lawrence Peter Berra in St. Louis, Missouri in 1925, was also a feared slugger and clutch hitter who led powerful Yankee teams in RBIs seven years in a row (1949-1955) and was named AL Most Valuable Player three times. Though famous for swinging at bad pitches, Yogi seldom struck out. He played in a record 14 World Series - on the winning team a record 10 times - and made every All-Star team from 1948 to 1962. As manager of the Yankees and later the Mets, Berra is one of only three Major League managers (along with Joe McCarthy and Sparky Anderson) to win pennants in both leagues. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1972. Berra is also famous for enriching the language with nonsensical expressions like "Ninety per cent of this game is half mental", "Nobody goes there anymore; it's too crowded", and "déjà vu all over again." Lightly toned and stained. Otherwise, fine condition. Previously authenticated by JSA.
