with a color caricature of Burg on verso, printed by Orstel Ltd., Ramat-Gan,
Tel-Aviv, Israel. Postmarked Jerusalem, Israel, Nov. 28, 1960. Three
Israeli stamps affixed. German-born Burg (1909-1999), born Yosef
Shlomo Burg, was a rabbi as well as a member of the Knesset from 1949 to 1988
and Deputy Speaker of the first Knesset (1949-1951). While with the Knesset,
he held the posts of Minister of Health (1951-1952), Minister of Postal Services
(1952-1958), Minister of Welfare (1959-1970), Minister of the Interior
(1970-1977), Minister of the Interior and Police (1977-1984) and Minister of
Religious Affairs (1970-1977), as well as a founding member of the National
Religious Party in 1956. Burg immigrated to Israel in 1939 and, from 1946 to
1949, tended to Holocaust survivors in Paris. He was also President of the World
Mizrachi Movement, a religious Zionist organization. Lightly toned, soiled and
bowed. Lightly creased and rounded corners. Adhesive residue at edges of stamp
on caricature side. Otherwise in fine condition.
