ZANE GREY
Check for $175 signed by Western author Zane Grey in 1931. Framed to 21½x16½ in a Gallery of History-style brown wood frame with off-white cloth matte
Check filled out and signed: "Zane Grey", 6x2½. Altadena, California, 1931 March 25. Check No. 26, drawn on his personal account at the Altadena National Bank, payable to John Blalock for $175.00. In the year he signed this check, Grey published Sunset Pass, and one of his stories, The Dude Ranger, was published in magazine form (it would be published as a book in 1951). He also traveled to Tahiti on a fishing trip.Western author and outdoorsman Zane Grey (1875-1939), born Pearl Zane Grey, combined his passions for writing and the great outdoors to create over 54 adventure-packed novels, featuring vivid images of the American West and the rugged individualists who tamed it. A former dentist, Grey had published two books based on the journals of a pioneer ancestor before focusing on the frontier. His 1912 novel, Riders of the Purple Sage, firmly established him as a Western author. Shortly thereafter, Grey, who became known as "the Father of the Adult Western", had a best-selling book every year for nearly ten years, and his plots sent the standard for the depiction of the West in movies. Although he is best known for giving legitimacy to the Western as a literary genre, Grey's adventure and sports books for boys and books and articles on fishing encouraged his readers to share his enjoyment of the outdoor life. His twenty books on fishing include Tales of Fishes, Shark: Killer of the Deep, Tales from a Fisherman's Log and Tales of Freshwater Fishing. Lightly creased with folds, light horizontal fold nicks the upper loop of the "G" in Grey. Show through of bank stamp on verso at the "e" of Grey and the amount. Bank cancellation holes and stamps at 2 lines of writing. Overall, fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 21½x16½.
