Wilding, London. Zena Dare (1887-1975) began her stage career at the age
of 12 in Babes in the Woods at the Coronet Theatre - when she adopted her
stage name of Dare. By the age of 15 she was touring and starring in such
produections as The Girl on Stage, The Beauty of Bath and The
Catch of the Season. In 1911 at the age of 23, she married and retired
from theatre. During WWI she spent 3 years working at Mrs. Vanderbilt's American
Hospital in France. She returned to the stage in 1926, formed her own
company in 1928 and toured South Africa in The High Road, The Trial of
Mary Dugan and Other Men's Wives. Her final theatre role began in
1958 as Mrs. Higgins in the original London production of My Fair Lady -
it ran for 5+ years. During her 60 year career she also appeared in a few
films -The Return of Carol Deane (1938) and a few television movies- An Ideal Husband (1969). Lightly worn at corners and edges.
