ZITA JOHANN
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Jim/Zita Johann --". B/w with brown hue, 8x10. On verso, ALS: "Zita Johann". No date, no place. To "Dear Jim". In full: "Thank you for your letter. My memories of Karloff are extremely pleasant as well as those of David Manners Best wishes". Johann's most memorable film role was as Helen Grosvenor/Princess Anck-es-en-Amon in the 1932 horror film, The Mummy, which starred Boris Karloff as Im-Ho-Tep/Ardeth Bey. Canadian actor David Manners played Frank Whemple in the film. Hungarian-born stage and screen actress Zita Johann (1904-1993) made her Broadway debut in 1924 and appeared in her first film, The Struggle, in 1931 (D.W. Griffith's last film). She appeared in a number of other films, including The Tiger Shark (also 1932), through 1939, when she returned to the stage. Johann, who made her final appearance in the 1986 made-for-TV movie, Raiders of the Living Dead, was married to producer-actor John Houseman from 1929-1933. Lightly rippled. Slightly soiled at blank margins and on verso. Overall, fine condition.
