ZONA GALE. ALS: "Zona Gale", 2p, conjoined sheets, 5½x7. Hotel Lucerne,[New York City], no year May 16. To Mrs. Hillis. In full: "The days with you came back to New York with me. Thank you that I have had them and can keep them. Inadvertently I have kept with me something else - your veil, which I am returning. And with me, too, I have that last impression - of you so beautifully accessible that the automobile may be claimed quite simply by your people, as simply as you sent it on both long journeys for me. Thank you! And thank you for the picture that is to come." Zona Gale (1874-1938), who wrote short stories, novels, biographies, poetry and plays, was the first female playwright on Broadway (Miss Lula Bett, 1920, a dramatization of her novel) and the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Drama (Miss Lula Bett, 1921). Slightly creased, lightly soiled. Mounting remnants on verso, no show through. Fine condition.
