Typed Letter Signed: "Alfred Kinsey" as Professor of
Zoology, 1p, 8½x11. Institute for Sex Research, Inc., Indiana University,
Bloomington, Indiana, 1948 May 1. To J. W. Roberts, St. Albans Book Shop,
St. Albans, N.Y. In full: "Thanks for letting me know of the copy of
the Rosenbaum book which you have available. I already own the book, and shall
not need the material. I shall, however, be interested in having you keep me
informed as you secure further material in the field of sex. ."
Alfred Kinsey (1894-1956) began his career as a zoology professor at Indiana
University following the completion of his Ph.D. at Harvard University in 1919.
In 1941, Kinsey obtained a grant from the National Council's Committee for
Research in the Problems of Sex, which was at the time funded by the Rockefeller
Foundation. Kinsey and his colleagues established the Institute for Sex
Research in 1947 as a separate, nonprofit organization. In 1948, he published
Sexual Behavior In The Human Male, which came to be known as the "Kinsey
