ANN SOTHERN
Sothern signed this document in 1962 to advise New York City's Actors' Equity Association of the fee that she agreed to receive if the producers of God Bless Our Bank abandoned the play.
Document signed "Ann Sothern" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x11, on thin paper. July 26, 1962. Addressed to Actors' Equity Association, New York City. According to this document, Sothern agreed to accept $1,000 if the producers of the play God Bless Our Bank abandoned the play before Aug. 1, 1962 and $6,000 if they abandoned it after this date. God Bless Our Bank never did make it to Broadway, despite having a pre-Broadway run with Sothern. But it does appear to have survived into 1963. Sothern (1909-2001, born Hariette Arlene Lake in Valley City, North Dakota) was trained as a vocalist before making her film debut under her birth name in the early Warner sound musical, The Show of Shows (1929). After success on Broadway, she returned to Hollywood in 1933 and found her niche as a lighthearted heroine, especially in the role of Maisie Ravier, which she performed in ten films (1939-1947). Sothern also starred in two TV series: Private Secretary (1953-1957) and The Ann Sothern Show (1958-1961). She was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for her last film, The Whales of August (1987). Lightly creased and rippled. Staple holes along top edge. Light tear and dent in top left corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
