ANN TODD and RONA ANDERSON
The actresses pen their names on beautifully hand-decorated cards, featuring attached photos alongside the signatures
Signature: "Ann Todd", with Autograph Note signed on verso: "To Peter/With Best Wishes/Rona Anderson", 13¼x4½ open flat, 6¾x4½ closed. Each signature is accompanied by a magazine photo and ink notes (unknown hand). Ink notes date the signatures: for Todd (November 21, 1955) and Anderson (Piccadilly Theatre, London, 1951). Adjacent to Todd's signature is an unsigned collection of information on actress Lana Morris. British actress ANN TODD (1909-1993) began her career on stage in 1928 before debuting in films three years later. In 1945, she became internationally popular as the vulnerable pianist in The Seventh Veil(Todd would call her 1980 autobiography The Eighth Veil). From 1947-1957, she was married to David Lean, who directed her in many of her films. In the 1950s, Todd joined London's Old Vic Theatre Company, appearing in a number of Shakespearean plays. In the mid-1960s, she turned her talents to film production, writing, directing and producing documentaries. RONA ANDERSON (1926-2013) made her show business debut in a 1945 stage revival of Peg O' My Heart. After several years with the Glasgow Citizens Theatre, she made her move to the silver screen in Sleeping Car to Trieste (1948). This was the first of almost 40 movies and TV shows for Anderson. Always on the brink of stardom, Anderson became a character actor who landed such roles as Miss Lockhart in The Prime of Miss Brodie (1969). Left edge frayed. Lightly toned. Small tear on Rona Anderson signature where card folds. Slight surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
