Canadian-born singer Anne Murray (born 1945) has sold close to 50 million albums and won four Grammy Awards over the past 50 years. After beginning her career in 1966 as a performer on the popular television show Singalong Jubilee (1961-1974), Murray appeared on a cast album. With these successes creating some demand, she released her first solo album, What About Me (1968). Her second album included "Snowbird", which became one of North America's most played songs in 1970. Her career took off, with appearances on variety shows and hits on both the pop and country charts. She received her first Grammy Award for "Love Song" in 1974 and was later awarded Grammys for "You Needed Me" (1978), "Could I Have This Dance" (1980) and "A Little Good News" (1983). Murray, who continues to release Christmas albums, has received numerous other awards, including 3 American Music Awards, 21 Juno Awards, and 3 Country Music Association Awards. Murray was inducted into the Juno Hall of Fame in 1993. She influenced various other Canadian singers who eventually became international stars, including Celine Dion, Shania Twain, K.D.
