BART LYTTON
The controversial businessman who was a major Democratic Party donor signed this application to join the Friars Club twice!
Document Double Signed: “Bart Lytton/ gw” and “Bart Lytton/ gw”. 8½x11. Three-page booklet. This application is for membership in the Friars Club of California. Dated December 8, 1961. Signed by two others. Bart Lytton (1912-1969) was a businessman, philanthropist, screenwriter, and Democratic Party fundraiser. His early association with the Communist Party while working in Hollywood and his decision to keep those connections throughout his life came back to haunt him in the McCarthyism era. During the 1960 presidential campaign, Lytton largely funded a whistle-stop train tour through the South that featured Lyndon B. Johnson and himself. Although the banking titan was thrown off the train when his Communist ties were realized, the train tour is sometimes credited with winning the Oval Office for J.F.K. Lytton's screenwriting credits include Tomorrow We Live (1942), Bowery to Broadway (1944), and Sing Your Way Home (1945). Lightly worn and toned. Creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
