Signatures: "Bill Robinson", "Rags Ragland", 4¼x5½ sheet with a printed photograph (b/w, 3x1½) of the Hollywood Canteen printed to the left (one surface). There is a third, unidentified, signature. Bill "Bojangles" ROBINSON (1878-1949), born Luther Robinson and the grandson of a slave, was the first Black solo tap dancer, headlining on vaudeville for 30 years. He also performed his famous "soft shoe" and tap routines in revues on Broadway before breaking into films in the 1930s. Robinson made four popular movies with Shirley Temple (The Littlest Rebel and The Little Colonel, 1935; Dimples, 1936; and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, 1938) and starred with Will Rogers (In Old Kentucky, 1935) and Lena Horne (Stormy Weather, 1943, his last film). John "Rags" RAGLAND (1905-1946) was an improvisational burlesque comedian. He took his Broadway role in Panama Hattie to the movie screen (1942), and played Red Skelton's sidekick in several films, beginning with Whistling in the Dark (1941). Frank Sinatra was at his bedside when he died and sang at his funeral. Vertical crease through first letters of the names. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
