Addressed to MCA Artists, Ltd., Beverly Hills, California. Ives signed this to amend a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Artists' Manager and Agency contract that he signed with MCA on Aug. 12, 1949. Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes at top edge. Light tears in top and right corners. Missing top left corner. Rounded corners. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: 1) Unsigned typed letter. Red pencil mark in bottom left corner. 1 page, 8½x11, two binder holes at top edge, thin paper. Feb. 23, 1950. Addressed to Mr. Murray Kinnell, Screen Actors Guild, Hollywood, California, from the contract departmentof MCA. This was a cover letter that accompanied a copy of the above document signed by Ives and MCA. Lightly toned and creased. Light tears at top edge. Missing bottom right corner. Rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition. 2) Unsigned typed memo. 1 page, 8½x11, two binder holes at top edge, thin paper. Feb. 21, 1950. In full: "Attached are 2 copies of SAG modification letter signed by Burl Ives. Please file with SAG and confirm." Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes at top edge. Ives (1909-1995, born Burle Icle Ivanhoe in Hunt, Illinois)was both an Academy and Golden Globe winner for Best Actor (The Big Country, 1958) and a popular balladeer (Itty Bitty Tear, My Funny Way of Laughing, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. His feature film credits include Smoky (1946, his debut), East of Eden (1955), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958, as Big Daddy), Desire Under the Elms (1959, as Ephraim Cabot), Let No Man Write My Epitaph (1960), Summer Magic (1963), The Brass Bottle and Ensign Pulver (both 1964), and Ives also starred in two popular television miniseries, Captains and the Kings (1976) and Roots (1977), as well as a number of made-for-television movies, including the animated holiday favorite, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964). Early in his career, Ives was also heard on the radio series The Wayfaring Stranger, and he later appeared in the TV series OK Crackerby (1965) and The Bold Ones: The Lawyers (1969).
