CELESTE HOLM
Agrees for the Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, Inc. to use her name, picture, or portrait, in publications for editorial or promotional purposes
Printed Form LS: "Celeste Holm". 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1947 October 2. To the News Syndicate Co., New York. In full: "In consideration of the publicity to be given to me and which may arise herefrom, my consent is hereby irrevocably given to you, your assignees and licensees, and to the Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, Inc., and its subscribers and licensees, to use my name, picture, or portrait, in publications for editorial or promotional purposes, excluding, however, commercial advertising" In 1943, Rodgers and Hammerstein cast Celeste Holm (1917-2012) as soubrette Ado Annie in Oklahoma!; both the production itself and Annie's show-stopping song "I Cain't Say No" affirmed Holm's future stardom. She was cast by her studio, 20th Century-Fox, in the role of the love-starved fashion editor in the prestige feature Gentlemen's Agreement (1947), for which she won an Academy Award. The important role of Bette Davis' understanding friend in another Oscar-winner, All About Eve (1950), has immortalized Holm amongst the film cultists. Always choosy about her roles, she remained active in the 1980s and 1990s whenever a good part struck her fancy. Pencil caption (unknown hand) at upper left and below signature. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
