CHANNING POLLOCK
Typed Letter signed: "Channing Pollock", 1 page, 8½x7¼. New York, N.Y., 1946 March 25. On personal letterhead to Mrs. F. Sherwood, Pleasantville, N.Y. In full: "You were guilty of understatement when you wrote that I might be interested in the letter you sent me by Senator Roach. At the time it was written, he was wooing my Mother, then resident in Washington and, as you know, they were married very shortly afterwards. I was very fond of the Senator and am almost startled at the reflection that he has been dead more than forty years. I am returning the letter herewith. Your collection of autograph epistles must be very interesting and I appreciate your very kind reference to my Biography. With these thanks and best wishes, I am sincerely yours". Channing Pollock (1880-1946) was a playwright and composer with many Broadway credits. His first Broadway play, The Pit, opened in 1904; the last, The House Beautiful, closed in 1931. He contributed tunes and lyrics to the Ziegfield Follies. His son, also named Channing Pollock (1929-2006) was an actor and a famous magician. Senator William Roach represented North Dakota in the body for one term (1893-1899). Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
