CHARLES "CHUCK" COLSON
Colson answers an inquiry with a lesson from the Bible.
Typed Letter Signed: "Chuck Colson," 1p, 8½x11. Prison Fellowship, Washington, D.C., 1980 January 15. On March 1, 1974, seven former Nixon presidential aides, including Charles Colson, were indicted in the Watergate cover-up conspiracy. To Jerome Guss, New York. In full: "In response to your note asking for the qualities of the perfect man, I refer you to the New Testament. There you will find the story of the one man who never sinned, who was gentle and loving in all things and who bore upon Himself the sins of all others. He is the perfect model for all of us to aspire to in our lives. No such human being will ever be made by cloning, only by God." Charles "Chuck" Colson (1931-2012), White House Special Counsel (1969-1973) and the third most powerful man in President Richard Nixon's administration, served as Nixon's liaison to key interest groups. Renowned for his ruthlessness, Colson was said to be willing to run over his grandmother to serve the President. He served 207 days in prison for obstruction of justice in the Pentagon Papers and Watergate scandals. His experiences in prison led him to start Prison Fellowship, a Virginia-based Christian counseling program that operates in more than 600 prisons. Colson became a prolific author, columnist and radio commentator. Fine condition.
