Commemorative Envelope signed: "Charles Walker", 6½x3½. Postmarked Kennedy Space Cetner, Florida, 32815, August 30, 1984, 20-cent U.S. flag stamp affixed. Ink stamp cachet features color logo of the Maiden Flight of Discovery, STS 41-D. Walker, born in Bedford, Indiana in 1948, has been a payload specialist on three Space Shuttle missions: 41-D (Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, 1984) and 51-D (April 12 to 19, 1985), both on Discovery, and 61-B (Nov. 26 to Dec. 3, 1985). Walker graduated from Purdue University in 1971 and worked as a civil engineering technician, land acquisition specialist, forest firefighter and engineer before becoming involved with the Space Shuttle. He joined McDonnell Douglas Corporation in 1977 as a test engineer on the shuttle's Aft Propulsion Substystem. Walker shared a patent on a continuous flow electrophoresis (CFES) device while at McConnell Douglass and trained crews on how to use a CFES payload on four early shuttle flights. While never a NASA employee, Walker's logged a total of 20 days of space experience and traveled 8.2 million miles. He held positions as Senior Manager of Space Programs Development and Marketing at the Boeing Company and president of the National Space Society. Fine condition.
