The nineteenth-century U.S. Representative from Connecticut signs his
name in black ink
Signature: "Chas. L. Mitchell/ Connecticut" in black ink. 7¼x4
clipping. Charles L. Mitchell (1844-1890) was a United States
Representative from Connecticut. After his schooling Mitchell traveled the
world visiting throughout Europe, Asia and Africa; upon his return to New Haven,
he engaged in the manufacturing of silver-plated ware and brass, as well as
serving in the State House of Representatives. He was elected to the U.S.
House of Representatives in 1883, and would serve two terms as the chairman of
the Committee on Patents. After his tenure he moved to New York City where
he died in 1890. Irregularly cut. Toned. Left edge frayed with small tears.
Small pinpoint stains throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
