American Society of Civil Engineers, 3-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Chicago,
Ill., September 6, 1952, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Addressed to a collector in
Detroit. In the early 1900s, Charles Berkey was a trained geologist who
worked on the water supply for New York City, then later on the Hoover Dam
and a multitude of other engineering projects. Berkey is considered the
first American engineering geologist. Notes on verso, no show through
(unknown hand). Fine condition.
