CONRAD HILTON
He declines David Rockefeller's invitation to meet Willard Butcher, the new President of Chase Manhattan.
Typed Letter signed: "Conrad", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Beverly Hills, California, 1973 February 15. On letterhead of the Hilton Hotels Corporation to David Rockefeller, Chairman of the Board, Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, N. Y. In full: "Your letter of February 9th has been received in which you have invited me to join you and others to a dinner in honor of Willard C. Butcher, who has recently been appointed President of The Chase Manhattan Bank. I appreciate very much the invitation and I would, of course, very much like to meet Mr. Butcher, but I find that it is impossible for me to attend the dinner on that evening which I very much regret. With kind regards, Sincerely yours". Conrad Hilton (1887-1979), who bought his first hotel in Cisco, Texas in 1919, acquired enough Texas properties to enable him to build his own hotel in Dallas in 1925. Although the Depression forced him to reduce his operations, by 1939 he was building and acquiring again. In 1946, Hilton organized his chain of properties into the Hilton Hotel Corporation. Three years later, he acquired the nation's most prestigious hotel, the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Today the firm owns over 2,000 hotels in sixteen countries. Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned at edges. Ink note (unknown hand) at top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
