DANTON WALKER
The New York entertainment columnist, and four other guests, sign
their appreciation for noted nightclub entertainer Hildegarde.
Autograph Note signed: "To Hildegarde:/the greatest show woman of
her time/Danton Walker", "To Hildegarde - with the deepest respect/for a true
artist./Jack Goldstein", and on verso "To Hildegarde/A pleasure
to/know her/Sydney Bernheim", "Lucile M. Bernheim", "To that great
Hildegarde/Hubert Fields", 9½x3¾. DANTON WALKER (1899-1960) was
entertainment and gossip columnist for the New York Daily News for 23
years. He wrote, produced, directed and appeared in a series of short
documentary films with the general title The Cavalcade of Broadway
(1951-1952). He wrote Danton Walkers Guide to New York Nitelife
(1958), and a series of books - including Spooks Deluxe - recounting
alleged celebrity encounters with ghosts. SYDNEY BERNHEIM (1886-1969),
partner in a New York law firm, was also a Director of Keystone Tire and
Rubber. No information is available regarding the other signers. Celebrated
cabaret singer and recording artist Hildegarde Sell (1906-2005) kept a
guest register for attendees at her shows. Toned at edges. Lightly frayed at
right edge. Lightly worn. Lightly soiled on verso (no show through). Otherwise,
fine condition.
