Letter signed by the English artist to a fan, thanking him for his clippings and sending him an engraving pull [item not included]. Extremely rare!
Typed letter signed: "David Gentleman", in black ink, 7x7½ affixed to 7¼x9½ sheet. Unsigned book clippings affixed around letter. In part: "Dear Mr Croxford, Thank you very much for your interesting letter and the cuttings. I was fascinated by the range of your activities and am delighted to enclose a signature and an engraving pull from the block used for the Prince of Wales Welsh Cross stamp [items not included]". David Gentleman (b. 1930) is an English artist, creating in a wide variety of mediums including water color, lithography, and wood engraving. Studying at the Royal College of Art, Gentleman's work has appeared largely in print, in books and magazines. Many of his wood engravings were used in Penguin paperbacks and stamps, which is his most recognized work. In 1978, Gentleman was commissioned to paint a platform length Eleanor Cross mural on the London Underground. Also an author, Gentleman wrote and illustrated several travel books. Edges irregular. Right edge creased. Light surface creases. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
