DAVID NIVEN
Signed book page with a photograph showing the actor in his (genuine) British army uniform and a caption summarizing his war record
Book Page signed: "David Niven", 6¾x9½. Page 61 of the book From Movie Lot to Beachhead, by the editors of Look magazine. Printed text on page reads: "First Hollywood star to enter World War II, David Niven (center) returned to his native England in October, 1939, was commissioned a lieutenant in the British army. (Here, with a British general, he inspects an army vehicle. He went through the Dunkirk debacle, saw action with Commandos. In 1943, he became a lieutenant colonel." British actor David Niven (1910-1983), born James David Graham Niven, served in the Highland Infantry in Malta, worked as a lumberman, news reporter, gunnery instructor to Cuban revolutionists, and as a representative of a London wine firm, all before he got his first acting role. His entertainment career started to take off in the late 1930s, with roles in The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) and Wuthering Heights (1939). At the onset of WWII, Niven rejoined the British Army to serve in the war. After he completed his military service, he became a star with leading roles in Stairway to Heaven and Magnificent Doll (both in 1946). Other roles over the years that made him an international star include Sir Charles Litton in a trio of the Pink Panther films (1963, 1982, 1983) and Around the World in Eighty Days (1956). He won the 1958 Academy Award for Best Actor for Separate Tables. Left edge torn from previous binding. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
