Typed letter signed: "Dean" in black ink. 6¾x9. August 31, 1972, typed on letterhead of the Federal Communications Commission, Office of the Chairman to "Dear Ernie" in full: "It's nice to hear from you and I'm delighted that you've hooked up with what must be a fascinating line of work. Frankly though I'm sorry to see you leave Washington. Right at the moment I have no plans to visit Cincinnati but if I do I'll be in touch. Best personal regards. Sincerely". Dean Burch (1927-1991) was an American lawyer and lobbyist. Burch began working in 1955 on Senator Goldwater's staff, heading the national party with Denison Kitchel as the national Goldwater campaign chairman. He was Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1964-1965. From 1969-1974, he served as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission during the administration of U.S. President Richard M. Nixon. In 1980, Burch was chief of staff on the Republican vice presidential campaign of George Herbert Walker Bush, the running mate of Ronald W. Reagan. Burch was director general of Intelsat, the global satellite consortium from 1987 until his death. Lightly toned. Horizontal crease across center. Otherwise, fine condition.
