Typed letter signed: "Derek Tansley" in black ink. 1 page, 5½x7. New York City, November 3, 1952. On personal letterhead. To "Dear Sir" Daniel Blum, In full: "With reference to your letter of Oct. 20th, please find enclosed two pictures (8x10) as promised [items not included] Yours sincerely," Derek Tansley (b.1917) made his debut in the TV movie R.U.R. in 1948, later appearing in The Ghost of Monsieur Tronjolly (1949), Table Seventeen (1950) and Professional Pride (1950). Mainly a television actor, Tansley also contributed to film, one of his most famous movies being The Crimson Pirate (1952) which starred Burt Lancaster. He worked continuously from the late 1940's through the mid-eighties, making his last on screen appearance in Summer Season (1985). Tansley also has one Broadway credit, Mr. Pickwick (1952). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Small tear in top left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
