EDDIE "MONSEWER" GRAY
Signed sentiment in his trademark fractured French, "Toujour Bon
Luck"
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Toujour Bon Luck/from/Eddie Gray",
3x1½ card. Edward Earl "Monsewer Eddie" Gray (1898-1969) was a
British music hall comedian known for trademark "Cockney French" dialect,
and for his stage costume: the wire-rimmed glasses and walrus mustache
shown here. Apprenticed to a troupe of jugglers at age 9, Gray turned
this skill into a comedy routine. He performed solo, and also with the Crazy
Group. Gray appeared in the London premiere of A Funny Thing Happened on the
Way to the Forum (1963). Lightly soiled. Lightly worn. Mounting residue
affixed on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
