Typed Letter Signed: "Edward G. Robinson", 1p, 7x10. No place, 1939 July 5. On his personal stationery, imprinted "E.G.R.", to Mr. Stephen Powers, Hackensack, New Jersey. In full: "You have been very generous in bestowing so many favors upon me. While some men are unaccustomed to public speaking, I am one of those who is unaccustomed to public bowing. There was, however, such a strong note of sincerity in your steadfastness of my career, that I feel most grateful to you for your expression. Mrs. Robinson asks that I convey her remembrances and good wishes to her old friends 'Ellen and Mil' and I join with her in sending my good wishes to you who has rightly been an old friend. I am taking the liberty of sending you an autographed photograph. Very sincerely," Edward G. Robinson (1893-1973) had his first film success in Little Caesar (1931), leading to a series of gangster roles. Later memorable films included Double Indemnity (1944), Key Largo (1948), The Cincinnati Kid (1948) and Soylent Green (1973). Robinson learned shortly before his death that he would be awarded an Academy Award in 1973 for his outstanding contributions to motion pictures. Fold creases through signature. Lightly rippled and soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
