Autograph Letter Signed: "Elizabeth Wilson", in blue ink, 1 page, 5¾x7¾. May 29, 1979. In full: "Dear John Willis - The reason you haven't received a reply from me is because I kept hoping I'd find the time for new portraits. Well, I haven't --. I do like Theatre World so much so I'm sending you these [items not included]. They were taken with the last five years - (One us "Sticks and Bones" and the others is the T.V. series "Doc") - take you pick! Sincerely". Elizabeth Wilson (1921-2015) won a Tony Award for her performance in Sticks and Bones (1972) as well as an Emmy nomination for her performance in Nutcracker: Money, Madness and Murder (1987). Wilson studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse before making her Broadway debut in the 1953 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Picnic. She reprised her role as Christine Schoenwalder in the 1955 film adaptation, her first credited film role. She's appeared in a total of 18 Broadway performances between 1953 and 2000, including the original production of The Desk Set (1955-1956), and in a total of almost 70 movies and TV shows between 1946 and 2001, including starring roles in Rod Serling's Patterns (1956), The Graduate (1967), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1974), The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981) and The Addams Family (1991) and a recurring role as Frieda Hechlinger in East Side/West Side (1963-1964), Annie Bogert in Doc (1975-1976) Kathy Kelly in Morningstar/Eveningstar (1986) and Rosalind Dupree in Delta (1993). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Surface creases, esp. toward right margin. Corners slightly worn and creased.
