the First National Bank of Beverly Hils, payable to cash for $50.00. Memo: "for
Household". A star of Broadway musicals from 1905, Janis (1889-1956) proved
her acting talent in silent films (Caprices of Kitty, 1915). Her
performances for troops during World War I earned her the nickname
"Sweetheart of the AEF" (American Expeditionary Force). Concentrating on
screenwriting and songwriting for the next two decades, she returned to the
screen in the first U.S. film about London facing the German blitzkrieg
(Women in War, 1940). Pencil notes (unknown hand) at top. Cancellation
holes touch "El" of signature. Vertical fold, not at signature. Overall, fine
condition.
