FRANCIS ROBINSON
Francis Robinson signed this typed letter on his personalized Metropolitan Opera letterhead in 1964 in response to a question about Brazilian soprano Bidu Sayão.
Typed letter signed "Francis Robinson" in blue ink. 1 page, 5½x8¼, on Robinson's Metropolitan Opera letterhead. Jan. 22, 1964. In full: "Dear Miss Manning, Thank you for your kind letter of the twentieth just here. If I helped bring Miss Sayao back to you, I think that is about all I could ask. Miss Sayao sang with us until 1952. That gave her, after all, a career here of sixteen years, which is pretty good for a soprano. With best wishes and, again, my thanks, Sincerely". BIDU SAYÃO (1902-1999, born Baldudína de Olivero Sayão in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was an operatic soprano. She debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in a 1937 production of Manon and performed with them until 1952. FRANCIS ROBINSON (1910-1980, born in Kentucky) was tour director, chief of the press office and box office manager of the Metropolitan Opera for over three decades. Lightly toned and creased. Adhesive residue on verso shows through on front (does not touch signature). Otherwise in fine condition.
