The American baritone sends a thank you letter from his office at the American Guild of Musical Artists. A rare signature!
Typed letter signed: "Frank", in blue ink, 1 page, 8½x11. December 29, 1948, New York City, New York. On his company letterhead as member of the Board of Governors, American Guild of Musical Artists Inc., to "Dear Erno" Erno Balogh, New York City, in full: "On behalf of AGMA, and also personally, I will try to thank you for the wonderful job you did but it is hard to find adequate words to express the gratitude we feel for your fine work and spirit of co-operation. I known what a sacrifice it was to you in time and effort but without people of your stature such an event could never take place. Again and again thanks - and the happiest New Year to you and Mrs. Balogh. Sincerely,". Frank Michler Chapman, Jr. (1900-1966) was an American operatic baritone, best known as the husband and manager of American soprano Gladys Swarthout. Chapman left his studies at Princeton University to serve in the Marines during World War I, fighting in the same company as Gene Tunney. Upon his return from the war he began playing villainous roles in various Triangle Club shows. While performing in Naples in the 1930s he met Gladys, and the two were wed in 1932. They spent the remainder of their careers performing together and attending each other's debuts. Existing recordings include their popular hit, "Vicks Open House." Normal mailing folds.
