Their signatures (and Wagner's inscription) on magazine pages affixed to opposite sides of a 6x9 card
Magazine Photograph inscribed and signed: "To George Sanders with best/wishes from/Frieda Wagner/Portland, January 1969". B/w 6¼x9½ overall, image 4¾x6¾ (one surface) affixed to 7x9¾ card with 5½x8½ advertisement affixed to verso. And on verso: Advertisement signed: "Ladislav/Fialka/[drawn flower]/8.1.1971". FRIEDA WAGNER, shown standing in front of a poster illustration of her grandfather, the German composer Richard Wagner. Frieda Wagner was initially friendly with Adolf Hitler, a great admirer of her grandfather's music, but she grew disillusioned, emigrated to England during World War II, and wrote anti-Hitler pamphlets. (These anti-Hitler views didn't prevent her arrest and temporary internment as an enemy alien.) As of 2007, she was still living in Bayreuth, Germany, site of the annual Bayreuth Festival, conceived by Richard Wagner which performs his works annually. LADISLAV FIALKA (1931-1991), shown in an advertisement for an international tour his Theatre on the Balustrade of Prague, led a mime troupe, described as "marvelous" by Marcel Marceau. The Theatre on the Balustrade, founded in Prague in 1958, was joined that same year by Fialka's mime troupe, which performed there until Fialka's death. After the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, the Theatre on the Balustrade became a haven for film producers associated with the "Prague Spring" of 1968, now banned from making movies. Wagner's inscription is to radio/TV interview host George Sanders, who collected autographs from his many guests. Lightly creased and soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
