Signature: "George Formby/1951", 3x1½ card. English
musician and comic actor George Formby (1904-1961) was a music hall and
radio performer who had over 20 hit films and over 200 record releases.
Nicknamed "the beloved imbecile," Formby played the ukelele on novelty hits like
"Chinese Laundry Blues" and "Leaning on a Lamp Post". His travels to entertain
troops during World War II earned him a knighthood (1946). A tribute to
his lasting popularity in England is that song compilations, such as 2004's
England's Clown Prince of Song are still being released. Fine
condition.
